1. What Are Perler Beads?

Perler beads (also known as Hama beads or fuse beads) are small plastic beads about 5mm in diameter. You arrange them on pegboards to form patterns, then fuse them together with an iron. Originating in Sweden in the 1960s, they've become a globally popular craft.

2.2 Pegboards

Common sizes: square (29x29 pegs), hexagonal, circular. Large projects can connect multiple boards.

2.3 Ironing Tools

  • Iron: Regular household iron (disable steam). Recommended temperature: 160-180°C (medium)
  • Ironing paper: Parchment paper or wax paper to prevent sticking
  • Tweezers: Curved-tip tweezers work best

3. Basic Process

  1. Choose a pattern: Use our Pattern Generator or pick an existing design
  2. Place beads: Follow the pattern, placing one bead at a time
  3. Cover with paper: Lay parchment paper flat over the completed design
  4. Iron to fuse: Use medium heat, circular motion for 30-60 seconds
  5. Cool under weight: Place a heavy book on top while cooling
  6. Peel and finish: Once fully cooled, gently peel off. Done!

4. Common Beginner Issues

Q: Beads keep falling over?

Use tweezers for better control. An anti-slip mat under the pegboard helps too.

Q: All holes closed after ironing?

Temperature too high or ironed too long. Lower heat, shorter time. Some holes remaining is normal.

Q: Project warped after cooling?

Use heavy weights while cooling. For large pieces, iron in sections.
